MESSENGER/COURIER BOY

Messenger/Courier boy picks up and delivers, documents, letters, packages, and other items on time between organization facilities. Documents and track the items picked up and delivered. Being a courier/messenger responds to inquiries about pick up and delivery schedules. May require a high school diploma. Additionally, courier/messenger typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The courier/messenger possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of job. Works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. 

MESSENGER/COURIER BOY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Walk, ride bicycle, drive vehicles, or use public conveyances in orders to reach destinations to delivers messages or materials.
  2. Load vehicles with listed goods, ensuring goods are listed correctly and taking precautions with hazardous goods.
  3. Unload and sort items collected along delivery routes.
  4. Receive messages or materials to be delivered, and information on recipients, such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, and delivery instructions, communicated via telephone, two-way radio, or in person.
  5. Plan and follow the most efficient routes for delivering goods.
  6. Delivers messages and items, such as newspapers, documents, and packages, between establishment departments, and to other establishments and private homes.
  7. Sort items to be delivered according to the delivery routes.
  8. Obtain signatures and payments, or arrange for recipients to make payments.
  9. Record information such as items received and delivered and recipients’ responses to messages.
  10. Check with home offices after completed deliveries, in order to confirm deliveries and collections and to receive instruction for other deliveries.
